A STUDY OF LONG ISLAND CITY’S

POST INDUSTRIAL LANDSCAPE ~

AND ITS IMPACT ON OUR CITY’S LANDSCAPE …

NATHAN KENSINGER

PHOTOGRAPHER – FILMAKER – JOURNALIST

The first part of this program will be a short documentary film that he co-directed with Nate Dorr about Hunter’s Point South in 2015 titled Reclaimed Ground. This piece was part of a larger arts project he co-curated called Change Ecologies, that brought 20 artists to engage with the Long Island City waterfront and investigate its history.

The second part of the program will be a presentation of his ongoing photographic and journalistic documentation of LIC’s changing post-industrial landscape, highlighting local industrial sites that have now been demolished or developed, including West Chemical, Schwartz Chemical, and the Neptune Meter Company, otherwise known as 5 Pointz.
