Forgotten NY / Open House NY : Steinway Community
October 19 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm$20
Saturday, October 19: Open House NY: Steinway Village
Visit the Utopian community that William Steinway built near his Steinway piano factory in the late 19th Century. It was not a company town as it was open to all, and many residents as well as businesses flocked to the seaside settlement along the L I Sound. Tantalizing remnants of this bustling region are still intact or hidden in plain sight.
We’ll finish with a special program by the Greater Astoria Historical Society, the public tour guides at the factory for the past two decades. We will meet at the Steinway Reformed Church at Ditmars Boulevard and 41st Street — also constructed for Steinway Village for a special program as park of Open House NY featuring a program showing the history of the Steinway & Sons Piano.
Meet 12 noon, Steinway Street and 23rd Avenue; take N train to Ditmars, walk 31st Street to 23rd Avenue; turn right, then walk 7 blocks east
Cost $20 / for GAHS members $15
