As an enhancement to your curriculum we invite you and your students to visit the Greater Astoria Historical Society. We offer a series on our community’s history which can be adapted to all age groups from elementary school through high school. In addition to covering the communities of Long Island City (Steinway, Old Astoria, Ravenswood, Sunnyside, Dutch Kills, and Hunters Point) topics also focus on the East River, the development of Queens and general historical interest.
Special lectures are also offered on the college level.
“Peeking Through The Keyhole: Long Island City Life, 1920-1950,” a permanent exhibit, showcases artifacts which brings to life the culture of this time period. “The Revolutionary War in Long Island City,” featuring the legendary Blackwell House Door, supplements the American Revolution curriculum.
School visits are available on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will try to accommodate special requests for other times. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 718-278-0700 to arrange for a visit.
