Beiderbecke was one of the most influential jazz musicians of his time His style contributed to the development of the jazz ballad. . He first played in New York City in September 1924 with his band
the Wolverines. He performed with a number of orchestras. With the saxiphonist Frankie Trumbauer, he
led an ensemble in 1925-1926
Beiderbecke died of chronic alcoholism at the young age of 28 on August 6, 1931, at 9:30 p.m. in his apartment at
43-30 46th Street in Sunnyside, Queens. The building he lived and died in is located at the
edge of the All Saints Churchyard.
